|
|
I've successfully modified the base EDID using powerstrip and the HDFury now works perfectly at all resolutions with the Denon AVR-4308CI. The key was this comment by the creator of powerstrip in reference to another issue:
http://forums.entechtaiwan.net/viewtopic.php?p=21782&highlight=secondtolast+byte#21782
Changing the second to last byte from 01 to 00 and the last byte from 73 to 74 and then writing the base EDID did the trick. Here is the modified EDID.
| Code: | | 00FFFFFFFFFFFF00216D0703010000000B110103800000962F44E4A1574A9723194F57FFFF808180814081C0A9C0A940D1C001010101011D007251D01E206E285500C4E62000001E572F80F9703854407B282A085EE53156281E000000FD001E5A186411000A202020202020000000FC00484466757279204456490A20200074 |
To use it with powerstrip, put the above on a single line in a text file. Then use the Update EDID from the Monitor Information section of powerstrip and give it that file when asked. Note that powerstrip also creates a backup copy of the original EDID so save the backup file in case of problems.
Enjoy!

Dear sir,
Yes, that will work as TEMP FIX for Denon receivers (prolly others who have same issue)
It was posted by Entech Taiwan in their forums where they also write that they will add support for CEA861 extension in their next release.
What you are doing here by changing those bytes will bypass the CEA861 extension completely.
So instead of looking for needed values in the extension it will simply act like if there is no extension at all.
The problem with this is that you may loose compatibility with others receivers/players or others HDMI sources. (those who strictly need a CEA861 extension)
Example: There is chance that HDfury won't work with Toshiba HD-DVD player after such modification.
Of course the EDID can be reprogrammed as many times as you want, so you can still revert the modification the day you change the source for an other one.
So it's a good fix for those who have DENON receivers but not the perfect one !
To perform the right one that will work on any devices we still need to wait the next Power strip release that will allow to edit the CEA861 extension !
Anyway, i guess everyone having issue with Denon will be glad to learn about it ! so congratulations ! |

NPComplete,
Can you comment on my HDMI devices you're feeding to your Denon? I have a 3808 and I'm looking to fee this receiver (via HDMI) my Dish Network DVR 622 Satellite box as well as my new Toshiba A2 HD-DVD player.
HKMod is concerned your temp fix will prevent other devices like the Toshiba from working, so I'm anxious to learn more about what you have working in this AV chain.
Thanks!

Any source connected before the receiver won't be concerned so that FIX will work in any case.
There is one and only case where it should not work and this is when you disconnect the HDfury with modded EDID and try to connect straight to a Toshiba HD-DVD player (guess someone will report on it)
Like we said, you can revert the changes as many times as you want, so you just have to update EDID with original data once again and you're fine.
As long as you do not switch for another receiver or try to hook up HDfury straight to another source then this FIX will work. |

| OK. Mostly good news, but the future looks promising. I updated the EDID in my HDFury with the fix above. As UserNameW suspected, sort of, some source devices don't work. My Toshiba HD-A2 and Scientific Atlanta HD8000 works perfect through my Denon 4308, but my Panasonic DMP-BD10 displays only a black screen. For now, I am outputing the Panny via component and letting the Denon pass the video to the HDFury. Progress is good. Hopefully, after Powerstrip release the new version and HKMod provides a new EDID, we'll all be sitting pretty.  |

| This sounds promising, but would this fix also work for a Denon 3808 coupled with a PS3? |

Hi everyone !
I have received my HDFury, my HD-DVD EP-35 and my Yamaha RXV-1800.
And of course, it doesn't work.
If I connect my HD-DVD player on the HDFUry, it works just fine.
But, as soon as I use my Yamaha receiver, the led on HDFury does not stay on.
I have tried to update the EDID, but this is all new for me.
I have installed the last version of Powerstrip, run with administrator rights (I use Windows Vista), but I haven't seen any change.
How can I be sure that the update did well ?
I spoke on the phone with a tech guy from Yamaha and for him, it is not their fault. I don't think we should expect any firmware from them.

Hi Boris,
It's never their fault
You can't be sure that Yamaha is looking for CEA861 extension block, therefor you can't be sure it needs the EDID fix.
You should first look if it's HDMI 1.3 or inferior ? please advise on that.
What you should consider is that the Yamaha may not output enough current on Pin14 in that case you need a PSU for HDfury, do you have the PSU already ?
You should also consider that the Yamaha is not able to display anything on a DVI(hdcp) device such as any brand new PC monitor, so you can do that test if you have someone with a DVI(hdcp) monitor. In that case you need HDMI switch ! |

Hi,
My receiver is very recent, so I'm pretty sure it is HDMI 1.3 (it is capable of 1080p/24).
I have the PSU but I haven't tried yet. I will ...
Normally, my receiver is capable of upscalling any signal in 720p, 1080i, or 1080p.
So, I don't think this is the cause...

Hi there, i have HDFury gamer edition and it will not work with my Denon 4308. I spent $200 getting this with import charges and am annoyed. I have tried to update EDID using powerstrip (more money as you have to buy it!) and it just says that no vaild EEPROM found. I have coonected 2 differnent computers to it and nothing. Please please can someone help me. The lead works at 1080i from my PS3 (flickers at 1080p) into my Hitachi plasma 42PD3000.
I work in computers and am very computer literate, so can anyone help me update the EDID so it works on my Denon.
Please!!
Cheers

A little update !
Everything works !
I have plugged the HDFury to the PSU and it is now working !
I now have some problems with porchs but this seems to be a known problem. If someone knows how I can change porchs on my receiver or my HD-DVD player ...
Thanks everyone (especially HKMod) !

I just received my HDFury but I am experiencing the same issues as others. The Fury works fine directly with devices but produces only snow with the Denon 4308CI.
I copied the code and dumped it into a txt file using notebook editor. Then I plugged the HDFury into my pc using the DVI port. I am watching the process on a monitor connected to an S-video port on the same pc graphics card. All seemingly works fine until I try to upload the txt file at which point I get an error from powerstrip stating "The file does not appear to contain a valid EDID. Please check it in an EDID editor"
Any thoughts? |
