I am in the UK...
My setup is as follows...

Thompson DHD4000 Freeview Box connected via component to Yamaha Amplifier (Upconverts all inputs to HDMI) --> HDFury2 - Component output --> Panasonic Plasma

It works fine on most channels but whenever I tune to Sky3 the HDFury keeps switching itself off and back on again (The blue light goes out)

Is there a fault in the unit or something I need to set somewhere?

Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon,

What firmware are you running on the Yamaha, did you check for the latest update yet ?

To be honest, I didn't even know there was a firmware on the amplifier!
I'll look into it and see if I can find out and post back...

Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon

There might be no firmware but since you did not give details about the model , we could not check it.
However i recall another user with Yam amp who got it working after firmware update, so some models should have this option available.

No, you were right, the firmware is not upto date. I have downloaded the new one and will update it just as soon as the wife and kid have finished with the TV tonight.
I will report back...

oh, for future reference, it is a Yamaha RX-V567 amplifier

Thanks
Simon

The update has made no difference.
I noticed it playing a recording tonight and so rewound to before the glitch and played it again to see if it was something in the broadcast and it didn't happen the second time around so it isn't something broadcast or a conversion the amp is doing. Does this mean it is something in the HDFury?

What else can I test?

Thanks
Simon

Bypass the Yamaha and run the box right into the Fury with as short an HDMI cable as possible. See if the glitching continues.

I can't do that, the digibox puts out component, not HDMI.
If I run the amp and not the HDFury then it does not do it, so it is either something to do with the amps conversion to HDMI or something the HDFury is doing.

Why does the blue light keep going out? I tried it with out the external power supply and the HDFury never lets any signal through so I know the powersupply is doing something.

I guess you can try a switch between AMP and HDfury, this would help you to isolate the issue.

Then I would get some HDMI Sources and try the Fury directly. I had a very similar problem with a Denon super high end receiver about 3 years ago. Brand new receiver, had just been released. Only occasionally would the Fury work with it, but bypassed it worked fine. It turned out to be a problem in the receiver, new firmware about a month later fixed it.

Unfortunately the HDMI signal is such that you need to eliminate all components in the signal chain other than the source and Fury to start with, then start adding longer cable runs and the receiver for the switching. Without the ability to go direct and eliminate components, you won't get too far with troubleshooting.

While the odd Fury is defective out of the box, the vast majority of problems posted about here are due to problems outside of the Fury itself.

I'll have to drag the other screen downstairs (which takes HDMI) and plug that in place of the HDFury and see if it still happens, that should eliminate the HDFury if it still happens or point directly at it if it doesn't.

OK, so the other screen did it aswell...
So not caused by the HDFury.

Source or amplifier then...

Time to buy a new Freeview box...

Thanks for your help

OK...

Went out and bought a new HUMAX HDR-Fox T2 PVR today....

The problem is worse! Even when pluging the PVR directly into the HDFury2 via HDMI, if I change channels up and down, every 4 or 5 channel changes the screen goes blank and reports no signal.

So...

HUMAX -> HDFury2 -> Plasma

still causes issues.

Any more ideas?
Thanks
Simon

I have just tried the HUMAX directly into my second screen and it shows no issues whatsoever.

HUMAX -> Amplifier -> HDFury -> Plasma = Problems
HUMAX -> HDFury -> Plasma = Problems
HUMAX -> Plasma = NO problems

Tonight I will try the amplifier in between the HUMAX and the known working screen, but it is looking to me like the HDFury is the prime suspect!

Thanks
Simon

OK I've noarrowed it down and it is a problem with the HDFury...

HUMAX -> HDMI Plasma = NO problems
HUMAX -> Amplifier -> HDMI Plasma = NO problems

HUMAX -> Amplifier -> HDFury -> Component Plasma = Problems.
HUMAX -> HDFury -> Component Plasma = Problems.

So how/what do I reprogram it with to work correctly or does it need replacement?

Thanks for your help
Simon
