Posted: Tue Jul 22, 2008 7:32 pm Post subject: HD Fury PS3 output ALWAYS black |
|
|
The Issue:
All video resolutions from the PS3 result in a full black image coming from the HD Fury Advanced.
My Goals:
Initial Goal: Get a non solid black signal from HD Fury while connected to ps3 showing on my Dell monitor.
Primary Goal: To be able to play ps3 on my Electrohome Marquee 8501.
After attempting to get it to work with the projector directly for several hours and failing I decided to take the projector out of the loop and use my Dell 2407 WFP just to make sure there really was a video signal coming through and what I found was that anytime the ps3 is used for input to the HD Fury at any resolution the result is a black image.
What I have tried:
The normal solutions of resetting the ps3 display settings - 3 beep reset
Connected the HD fury to different displays with the same results.
Different sources of input to the HD Fury which has made it obvious that the HD Fury is having issues with the PS3 HDMI output only.
Using the HD Fury with and without the power adapter. (It is always illuminated blue for me)
What doesn't work:
PS3 All Resolutions -> HDMI to DVI Cable -> HD Fury -> Dell 2407WFP VGA port.
What works:
PS3 -> HDMI to DVI cable -> Dell 2407 WFP via DVI (no hd fury needed)
PS3 -> HDMI -> DLP TV
Computer -> Dell 2407 WFP via VGA Port (no hd fury needed)
Computer 1080p 720p and many more -> DVI cable -> HD Fury -> Dell 2407 WFP via VGA Port
With the PS3 connected directly to the DVI of the Dell 2407 WFP I was able to setup the ps3 to try different resolutions all which had the same failed result of a recognized signal but a full black image.
Display Devices:
Electrohome Marquee 8501
Dell 2407 WFP
Output Devices:
DLP TV HDMI
Electrohome Marquee 8501 RGB
Computer DVI
PS3 HDMI - Latest firmware
Now.. I have been all over the forums and other sites trying to find a solution to this problem and have had no luck. I have spent many many hours looking for a solution and testing different input and output devices. I really hope there is a simple setting somewhere that was missed... help.. please... |

Yes that looks like the same 2407 that I have. I am fairly certain 90% that it is not the monitor itself as I get the same results from my HD Fury Advanced on both my Dell monitor and on my Electrohome Marquee 8501 projector.
The signal from the computer works fine through the HD Fury at 1080p@60hz and at the other standard progressive resolutions. However the signal from the PS3 is registered by both devices as present but pure black at all HDMI resolutions on the PS3.
I have looked into the firmware update and it does not look like it is consumer installable. - Though the firmware update mentions nothing along the lines of VGA improvements just DVI input improvements. |

Let's make sure your HDfury is working right first, so let's ignore the Dell monitor and focus on the E'home Marquee projector. How exactly do you have it hooked up including all cables & lengths?
Here's an example:
PS3 -> HDMI to DVI cable (how long? Is it the one that came with the Hdfury?) -> HDfury -> some sort of analog cable (how long? which one?) -> Electrohome Marquee CRT projector.

For testing purposes I am only using the cables which came with the HD Fury Advanced Kit. Green Version.
6' HDMI to DVI-D cable
VGA -> 5 BNC cable
6' USB 5V cable
US Wall outlet power supply
PS3 -> HDMI to DVI-> HD Fury -> 5 BNC cable -> Projector
I have also tested my projector at 720p and 1080p @ 60hz using my pc as an output device. |

So this setup should work just fine at 720p and 1080p (60Hz) on the E'home 8501 CRT projector. Strange. Assuming the PS3 is correctly set up to output over HDMI (which is sounds like you've done) I don't know why it wouldn't work. It shouldn't need the power supply either as the PS3 outputs enough current over HDMI output.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Ya.. the ps3 is definitely outputting over the HDMI. For example when it is not outputting over the hdmi the projector has no signal being received but when it is outputting the signal is recognized and all black.
Yet supposedly the same signal 1080p @60hz from the PC going through the HD Fury works...
My PS3 is a brand new 80gb and the HD Fury was purchased last week. |

Ok. I have read that forum post and it does not seem to apply to my monitor.
Test Grid:
Computer DVI 1920x1080@60hz -> 6' DVI to DVI cable -> HD Fury -> VGA Port on monitor : Works.
Computer DVI 1280x720@60hz -> 6' DVI to DVI cable -> HD Fury -> VGA Port on monitor : Works.
PS3 1080p HDMI -> 6' HDMI to DVI cable-> DVI Port on monitor : Works.
PS3 720p HDMI -> 6' HDMI to DVI cable-> DVI Port on monitor : Works.
PS3 1080p HDMI -> 6' HDMI to DVI cable -> HD Fury -> VGA Port on monitor : Does not work
PS3 720p HDMI -> 6' HDMI to DVI cable -> HD Fury -> VGA Port on monitor : Does not work
When it does not work I get a signal but the image is all black.
After those tests I have come to the conclusion that the HD Fury I have is malfunctioning and having an issue with the signal coming from my PS3. |

I have the EXACT same problem. I mean exact:
My HD Fury works with computer but not with the PS3.
+
Ps3 works with my brother's HDCP monitor but not with mine.
=
HD Fury is broken.
Nobody wants to admit that my HD Fury may have been RMA. You and I both got the HD Fury HDMI -> VGA crap edition.
*stares blankly at his $90 paper weight* |

| Cheeseman, I suggest you email the hkmod user. He has been very helpful and I have begun the RMA process with my HD Fury. Hopefully the replacement will work properly. I will post here again once the RMA process is complete and I have the replacement in hand. |

| Thanks for the speedy reply! Well, if he says that yours is broken, then that means mine is too! *crosses his fingers* maybe we can both get this working. |

Dear sir,
I'm sad you are having issue with your product, if you explain a bit more we may be able to help you out without having to replace HDfury.
So far we have less than 20pc returned for replacement out of thousands and not even 10 was defectives
The most common reasons of compatibility issues are:
1) Source not sending enough current on it's pin14 > Fixed using a PSU
2) Display not able to resolve 1280x720 and/or 1920x1080
3) Defective HDMI > DVI-D cable or use of inline adapter such as HDMI to DVI-D adapter
Please use the forum for support and describe your issue as well as your display brand/model and link to usermanual/PDF
Please note that our direct RMA service is available for purchase made through sitename.com or HDfury.com
As you made your order on Monoprice.com you have to deal with monoprice.com for getting your replacement !
Ultra Fast return and replacement through us is available ONLY to sitename.COM customers ! (yet another reason to stick with the SOURCE)
All the best,
Team HDfury.com |

That is a possibility. I recently purchased the 80gb / MSG4 bundle. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony put a wrench in the system. |
